Miral

Higher Grounds is proud to be sponsoring the movie Miral in the Traverse City Film Festival this year. This is an autobiography based on a novel written by Rula Jebreal. It is the story of a young girl growing up in a turbulent Palestine. Miral is a student at an orphanage/school that preaches nonviolence and peace. When the first Palestinian uprising began in 1987 Miral began to question her nonviolent beliefs.

Higher Grounds is sponsoring the movie in hopes to spread understanding and tolerance. As a retailer and wholesaler of Fair Trade and Organic Palestinian Olive Oil we are making an effort to support the farmers. We believe this support must start with education about their culture and an understanding of cultural differences.

Higher Grounds at Hiawatha

Higher Grounds is going on a field trip this weekend!

Emma and Karin are leaving tomorrow and heading to the U.P. Ruthie and I (Maggie) will be heading up on Friday to help them out.

The Hiawatha Music Festival will be kicking off on Friday and we want to be prepared. We will be serving brewed coffee, iced drinks and lattes all weekend long.. and maybe occasionally cutting a rug. If you are going to be in the Marquette area this weekend you should stop by and visit. There will be a lot of fun events and concerts to enjoy (not to mention the delicious coffee available).

We have done a couple music festivals before but this will be our first experience at Hiawatha. Needless to say we are hustling about to get things ready and the anticipation is building! This will be a fun and exciting weekend for us and everyone else at Hiawatha, we hope you will have the chance to enjoy it with us.

Introducing our new Honduran Coffee!

Higher Grounds is releasing our new Honduran Santa Rosa Medium Roast coffee, for a limited time only!

We are mixing it up a little over here at HG with a new coffee. In an effort to continue to provide you with the best quality coffee available we are offering beans from the Coprocael Co-op for the first time. We are excited to have the opportunity to provide you this unique single origin coffee.

The Coprocael Co-op is a relatively small Co-op consisting of 100 farmers, 39 women and 61 men, and have gained a reputation for the high quality coffee they produce. The Co-op has developed a worm composting system to make use of their coffee pulp and turn it into high quality compost to feed their coffee trees and crops.

The Honduran coffee is a medium roast, with a clean, crisp finish and notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. This coffee has quickly become a favorite of the staff. The Honduran Santa Rosa Medium Roast will only be available for a limited time. For the opportunity to take a sip of this coffee stop on by the coffee bar or click on our website to purchase on-line.

Sit Down and Chill Out at HG

If you have stopped by HG lately you will have seen that we have been undergoing some changes. There has been a lot of hustling and bustling about. We have extended our outdoor patio; it is now two times bigger! Even though it is still under construction, that hasn't stopped us from enjoying it.

In order to take full advantage of our newly acquired space we have purchases some additional patio furniture. Our Coffee Bar is also introducing a new iced coffee menu. There are three more delicious choices to choose from (Indian Spiced Chia, Orange 'Cicle and K’s Vanilla Vice). To get the best experience possible, stop by, order your drink of choice and enjoy the beautiful weather on our new patio and furniture. We promise you will not be disappointed!
